The Basic Duties of "The Property" of God Now that the question of, "Who is The Boss," has been thoroughly answered, what does The Boss want men to do in some basic areas of our lives? What are some issues society deals with today, that The Boss has already addressed? - Correct Worship - The first thing that God told us to do was not to have any other gods beside Him (Ex 20:3; Dt 5:7). In other words, we are not to recognize any God other than Him. When it comes to worship (acting in reverent love and humble devotion), those of us who are called Christians generally worship no one else. But since we are "sheep", we can be easily led astray. Many of us, intending to worship Jesus, are sometimes led to worship statues or His mother, Mary. Some of us are led to certain forms of meditation, requiring specific positions or chants. This is worshiping a style or format, not God. Still others are led to worship differently than God commanded. Thus, we are not worshiping Him, but we are acting out a form of worship that He does not count as worship, because we are not reverently loving Him enough to do as instructed; we are not being humbly devoted to Him when we refuse to worship as He ordains. We can't be reverencing Him if we are not obeying Him by worshiping as He prescribed. Yet, the worse form of worshiping another god, worshiping something other than God, is the worship of self. That is when you decide to honor only your own desires. You don't obey God. Rather, you call your own shots by reverencing your own craving. You see, EVERY man, woman and child serves someone. Waitresses serve customers, nurses serve patients, and men serve their bosses. And each person honors a decision-maker in their lives. Children honor parents, workers honor supervisors, and citizens honor judges. And all of these worship something. Most of us worship One who we know has power and understanding far beyond our own. But some of us only have reverent love and humble devotion to a woman, to a man or to ourselves. When we apply our reverence and devotion to someone or something other than God, then are worshiping some other god. Even many Christians believe they are worshiping God, when they are really exercising reverent love and humble devotion to someone or something else. Do you serve God on worship days or serve yourself by working or playing instead? Do you give the correct amount of tithes AND offerings, or do you divert God's money to something else? Do you teach your children God's word, or do you let them learn about the latest cartoon or teen craze? Do you spend time with God everyday, or instead practice your favorite pastime? Do you obey God's heart on a matter, or do you obey your own heart? Do you even really know God's heart on many matters? If you are not doing the thing that God told you to do, then you are acting as if you are the owner yourself, as if you are the boss. And you are functioning as your own god. You are truly worshiping yourself, because you are reverently loving yourself, and you are humbly devoted to your wants. You are the decision-maker in your life, not God. And when you need God and call on Him, you will be angry that He ignored you. But why shouldn't He ignore you? You were not reverent to Him, and you were not devoted to Him. Perhaps you should rethink what you are doing and come humbly and reverently to the real Boss. He is forgiving and will receive a true repentant. There is only one God and one Boss, and He is Spirit. He is the only One worthy of worship. Obey Him. a servant |
